47 years of excellence: The 2014 NAF El Centro Air Show

EL CENTRO – Saturday at the Naval Air Facility (NAF) El Centro Air Base is the 47th Annual 2014 NAF Air Show.

Open to the public and free, thousands are expected to witness the Blue Angels do their precision maneuvers.

The open house event is a way of the men and women of the NAF to say ‘Thank You’ for the support the Imperial Valley community gives the air base.

The air base has been in El Centro for over 70 years.

Captain Dust Cook, Pilot for Fat Albert Airlines

“Our entire team is excited about this year’s show,” said Captain Dusty Cook, one of the pilots for Fat Albert Airlines. “All 130 of us are ready to kick off this year’s season. We’re going to make sure everyone has a good time. 2014 is going to be a great year. This area is prime country for aviation, great range space, with great people, and great hospitality.”

Andrea Perez, Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class

Andrea Perez, Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class, said, “We’re really excited about Saturday’s show. We get to have another air show season and we’re actually starting it right here in El Centro.”

The Blue Angels are expected to perform for nearly 15 million spectators in 2014.

NAF El Centro is the winter home of the Blue Angels and the annual NAF El Centro Air Show is the first show the Blue Angels perform in every year. Drawing a crowd of approximately 35,000, it is one of the largest events in the California Imperial Valley.

By publicly demonstrating the skills and abilities of naval aviators, the team’s goal is to inspire young men and women not just to pursue a career in naval aviation or the military, but to aspire to excellence in all areas of their lives.
