BRAWLEY- Twenty years ago the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) was formed with one mission, to put an end to Breast Cancer. With a strategic plan of action to achieve a goal, the NBCC has set a deadline, January 1, 2020 to finally end the dreaded disease.
The NBCC, a grassroots organization is dedicated to finding an end to breast cancer through action and advocacy
Their hope is to stop women from getting breast cancer and to help them with understanding how to prevent the spread of cancer. The second leading cause of cancer death for women in the United States is breast cancer, lung cancer being first.
The local organization, Between Women, held a Breast Cancer Deadline 2020 meeting on Tuesday evening at the Pioneers Hospital Auditorium room to advocate the urgency that is needed for support in finding an end to the disease.
During the meeting, Linda Cady founder and director for Between Women Inc. a nonprofit breast cancer organization explained to the room how the seating charts were strategically picked, placing a breast cancer survivor and a guest with a family member that is survivor at every table.
“I am a survivor, and that’s how it should be,” said Holtville resident Alexandra Silva, a survivor of breast cancer for over a year. Silva first became diagnosed with invasive breast cancer when she was 22 years old. “I had to go through it all, the chemotherapy, the radiation, but I made it,” said Silva about her process.
The NBCC deadline 2020 will be holding another meeting on November 13, 2014; the meeting location has yet to be chosen. For more information on The NBCC deadline 2020 meetings and endorsement please contact Linda Cady at (760)351-1774 or go to BreastCancerDeadline2020.org
