BANNING – A 4.5 magnitude earthquake struck the Los Angeles area at 6:42 A.M. local time with no immediate damages or injuries reported. The quake was described as a “slow rumble” by residents.
The quake occurred 85 miles east of Los Angeles centered about 2 miles north of Banning, California. Banning is a city of 29,000 people in Riverside County.
The U.S. Geological Survey originally said the quake was a 4.8 magnitude, but was subsequently downgraded to a 4.5. Residents can expect aftershocks at a lower magnitude for days.
