CATHEDRAL CITY – Paris Hilton’s younger brother was hospitalized with serious injuries resulting from a weekend crash on Interstate 10 in the Coachella Valley, the California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.
The crash was reported around 12:20 p.m. Saturday on eastbound I-10 west of Date Palm Drive in the Cathedral City area. A park ranger had stopped 19- year-old Conrad Hughes Hilton III earlier on I-10 in the Beaumont area for speeding and passing on the right shoulder, then lost sight of him after the Highway 60 split, CHP Officer Stephanie Hamilton said.
“Several motorists called him in for reckless driving, but he was not being pursued at the time of the collision,” Hamilton said.
On I-10 near Date Palm, Hilton’s BMW struck a Volkswagen Beetle when he tried to change lanes, causing the Beetle to spin and stop in the median, the CHP reported. Hilton also lost control of his car, which crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer, then veered off the road and onto the dirt shoulder, according to the CHP’s collision report.
Firefighters had to cut Hilton out of the mangled vehicle, and he was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with major injuries. Alcohol and drugs weren’t factors in the crash, according to the report.
Hilton’s great-grandfather founded the Hilton hotel chain.
