IMPERIAL – Thursday’s thunderstorm rolled into the Valley shortly after noon, bringing rain, thunder, lightning, high winds, and hail. Power poles were snapped at their base along Highway 111, causing power outages in Imperial and brown outs in Brawley. Interstate 8 closed due to dangerous driving conditions for several hours.
As damages are being assessed by the Imperial Irrigation District and county officials, the residents enjoy the aftermath of the storm with cooler temperatures.
The National Weather Service predicts Friday will be mostly sunny, highs 96 to 101. A light wind in the morning becoming southwest 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon will keep temperatures lower than normal.
