Border Patrol administers CPR to drowned woman until she regains consciousness

EL CENTRO – Sunday, a Border Patrol agent assigned to the El Centro Station rescued an unconscious woman from her vehicle after it plunged into a canal.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m.

El Centro Sector Communications advised Border Patrol agents of a single vehicle that had lost control and had driven into the canal at the intersection of Evan Hughes and Austin Rd.

The first Border Patrol agent arriving to the scene observed a vehicle submerged inside the canal. He immediately entered the canal in search of the driver.  Inside the vehicle he discovered an unconscious 24-year-old woman in the driver’s seat.


The Border Patrol agent extracted the woman from the vehicle and pulled her to the safety of the canal bank.  He began performing CPR until she regained consciousness.  The California Highway Patrol and Imperial County Fire and Rescue Team arrived to provide further medical evaluation.


The woman was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the nearest hospital for further medical treatment.
