28th “Sureño” Gang Member Arrested by Border Patrol

BORDER PATROL 1CALEXICO – Thursday, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico station apprehended a dangerous gang member attempting to make an illegal entry into the United States.

Border Patrol agents encountered a 39-year-old Mexican national as he entered the United States illegally from Mexico at around 9:30 p.m. Agents arrested the man approximately 3.5 miles east of the downtown Calexico Port of Entry.

The man, later identified as Luis Zamudio-Hurtado, was transported to the Calexico Border Patrol station where it was revealed he was an active member of the “Sureño” criminal street gang out of Modesto.

The gang member is an aggravated felon who was convicted for sexual battery and was sentenced three years in prison.

Zamudio was previously removed by an Immigration Judge on March 21, 2001.

The man is in Border Patrol custody and will be criminally prosecuted for re-entry into the United States after being ordered removed. This is the 28th gang member arrest in the El Centro Sector area this year.
