IMPERIAL- The 24th Annual Imperial County Sheriff’s Volunteer Service Organization beef barbecue dinner was held inside the Casa de Manana building at the I.V Expo Sunday.

Hungry residents lined up to show their support for their local volunteer groups that donate their services working with the Sheriff’s Office. Each dinner plate came with an orange card to fill with their information which then became a raffle ticket to win a 32-inch screen television.

Local cattle feeders donated over 4,000 pounds of beef for the popular fundraiser. Guests were given the option to buy a jar of homemade BBQ sauce in addition to the meal. Dinner plate tickets were a donation of $8.00 that included meat, salad, beans, a roll, and a side of barbecue sauce or hot sauce if requested. Deserts and beverages were sold for an extra $1.00.

Guests could carry-out or sit at the tables and chairs provided and enjoy their dinner while listening to country music. The Sheriff’s dinner included a raffle, with prizes donated by local sponsors and companies. Prizes ranged from a stuffed Halloween Yoda to a child’s bike.

Sheriff Raymond Loera spoke about his experience in making the event possible.

“This is my 8th year helping out, and as you can see its very well attended, after this event is over, we get right to work planning next year’s annual barbecue. Each volunteer services will get from $1500 to $2000 from this event to help with their services to the community,” Loera said.

All the proceeds from the annual barbecue are donated to the local volunteers’ services. The annual BBQ serves as the year’s main fundraiser for the Imperial County Sheriff’s Reserve Unit, De Anza Rescue Unit Inc., Imperial County Sheriff’s Explorer Post No. 500, Imperial County Sheriff’s Activities League, Imperial County Sheriff’s Aero Squadron and Imperial County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse.
