BRAWLEY – Do you remember your first bike? Carlos Weir of Las Chabelas Restaurant and Abraham Rubalcava sure do. That is why they decided every Christmas to have a Bicycle Drive to give to those children who are in danger of never having a first bike.
Las Chabelas and the Brawley Elks Lodge and Los Camperos got together to gather either money or bikes from the town of Brawley and then give them away.
Las year they donated 80 new bicycles and helmets to the children in our county’s foster program. The smile on their faces as they pushed and pedaled away on their very own brand new bicycle paid back their efforts 100% plus.
They target boys and girls from 7 to 12 years of age.
They recently held a fundraising tri-tip dinner at Las Chabelas parking lot to raise additional funds. Those that donated over $100 received two tickets for dinner as a way to thank their generosity.
