14-year-old darts into path of Brawley resident


el-centro-police-department logoEL CENTRO – On June 16, 2013, at about 10:50 PM, officers from the El Centro Police Department responded to a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle, which happened in the 300 block of North Imperial Ave.

The pedestrian, a 14 year old juvenile from El Centro was struck while running across the street.  Officers found the juvenile unconscious when they arrived.  The juvenile was suffering from a head injury.  According to statements taken from witnesses and the involved driver, the youngster was running east bound across Imperial and ran into the path of a north bound Ford sedan, driven by a 75 year old Brawley resident.

The injuries sustained predicated the juvenile be air lifted to a San Diego area hospital for treatment.  Currently the juvenile is in stable condition.

“This unfortunate collision has an effect not only on the juvenile and their family, but also on the involved driver, their family and those who witnessed the event”.”We need to remind everyone to cross streets at crosswalks or intersections”, said Commander Jeff Mason.
